Our Mission

Enlightening Minds

Our graduates are well prepared for the high school of their choice. We provide a strong and focused curriculum within an environment for academic excellence and also have the resources to serve students needing additional assistance.

As a private school, our ability to select the appropriate students for our educational approach and our strong parental involvement both within the school environment and at home, insures educational effectiveness that goes beyond student/teacher ratios.

  • 99% of Holy Redeemer graduates are accepted into the High School of their choice
  • Students consistently score in the upper 90th percentile in Iowa testing
  • We provide an accelerated reading program and advanced math
  • Our Well-rounded curriculum includes: foreign language, music, computer and science labs, religion and educational field trips
  • We employ a full time learning consultant available to all students
  • We maintain a strong commitment to technology

Enriching Hearts

Our Christ-centered education fosters in our students a love of service to God, their school community, their fellow students and beyond. Children encouraged to share their spirituality with their peers at school develop an ability to stay grounded in a Christ-centered philosophy throughout their lives. We develop in our students a love of service through a recognition of Christ in others. We are a vibrant community of shared Christian values and make Christian outreach part of our mission. Students are regularly involved in spiritual and outreach activities:

  • Daily prayer and Mass attendance twice a week
  • Prayer services and masses involving students: planning, reading and serving
  • School Children's Choir
  • Involvement with food drives and food pantries to feed the hungry
  • Annual student run Mission Carnival
  • Student council fundraisers for local and international charities
  • Ongoing events to support our Sister parish in Haiti
  • Collections for St. Vincent de Paul

Embracing Community

Where parents are involved, children thrive. Our educational effectiveness is a direct result of our high degree of parental and parishioner involvement working closely with school leadership. Over 75% of parents volunteer in some way in the school community which we believe is fundamental in impressing upon our children that they are an important part of a larger, supportive family looking out for them. On a regular basis children see parents involved at school as playground monitors, serving lunch and helping out in the school library.

The concept of "shared values" is central to our approach. Our families know each other by name and can not only trust in each other's support when needed, but also enjoy a strong social community. With shared Christian values at our core, shared values concerning proper behavior, parental involvement with school work, extra- curricular activities and relationships all play an important role in the total development of our children. Some of our active school community roles and activities include:

  • Positions on the PTO and School Board
  • Strong parental involvement in instruction and activities
  • Family lunches with kids at school
  • Annual Ice Cream Social and Parish Picnic
  • Many social activities such as annual parent parties by grade, class parties for kids, etc.
  • Collaboration with parish organizations: The Men's Club, Catholic Women's League, Athletic Association, "Redeem Team" Charitable Volunteers, etc

Empowering Lives

Preparation for high school and beyond requires more than just academics. Integral to our approach is the development of the personal confidence, leadership, friendships and self-esteem needed to empower that academic foundation. Every child is frequently involved in presenting and speaking in front of their class and often to the entire school and community. By the end of the early grades, public speaking is second nature to most of them. We provide opportunities for a wide variety of extracurricular activities to increase involvement and improve self-esteem for children of all abilities and interests. As our children progress through the upper grades, confidence and leadership opportunities are increased. Most importantly, our children are presented these opportunities in a loving, secure environment where they feel safe to explore and grow. Some examples include:

  • Bellarmine Speech
  • Student Council
  • CYC Athletics
  • Music programs
  • Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts
  • Spelling and Geography Bees
  • School Talent Show
  • Safety Patrol
  • Math League
  • Buddy system pairing older students with incoming early grade students
  • McCarron Leadership Scholarship program
