DATE: September 15, 2008
Present: Joe Franke, Fr. Mike Murphy, Sr. Frances Therese Hansman, Mary Schurk, Tracy James, Margie LaMore, Deacon John Flanigan, Deacon Len Sisul, Tom Leonard, David Hercules and Pat Zapf.
Absent: Laurence Kinsella, Jerry L’Ecuyer, John O’Leary, and Ginny Austermann.
7:05 PM meeting opened with a prayer led by Deacon John Flanigan.
Minutes from August were approved.
Joe began with confirming the success of the talk given by John O’Leary, “Finding God in Adversity”. The talk was very well received by the estimated four hundred in attendance on Sunday night. John gave a similar talk to the school children after the Mass on Friday morning.
The rest of the meeting was spent reviewing the status of the “Festival of Ministries – Discover God’s Treasure”. Margie showed the revised stewardship pledge sheet that will be available for pickup at the Festival; the start of the Stewardship drive for the coming year. She then reviewed the status of the pirates, maps, decorations, signs, table, trinkets and layout of the parish center. Over forty organizations will be presented at the twenty tables laid out on the parish center floor in the form of an X. Each table will have a black table cloth, stand up sign for organization name, treasure chest filled with trinkets and labels of organizations names to add to individual treasure maps. Representatives of each organization will man the tables to explain their organizations activities and needs. Outstanding issues were resolved and some preparation work is still to be done later in the week. Many volunteers, for whom we are all grateful, are assisting in the completion of these tasks. The floor is to be covered by the Custodial staff on Friday. Set-up will begin at 8:30 Saturday morning. Music will be piped in over the sound system. Refreshments are being provided by CWL ladies on Saturday night and by “After Mass Refreshment” committee on Sunday. A children’s section is being set up where Tory Welling will have craft activities for the kids while the parents follow their treasure map. Parish Council will staff the table at the entrances to the gym to provide Stewardship sheets and pirate maps to all participants and provide assistance in locating an organization. David discussed the center piece of the festival which is Christ. There will be twenty prizes, five awarded by lot from returned treasure maps after each Mass. Len agreed to take pictures of the Festival. Clean up crew will clean up the gym after the Festival is completed.
Fr. Mike informed the council that the new parish web site should be up and operational by October 1. There will be many new pages, that several individuals will be responsible for maintaining. It will be password protected for updates and viewing will be different depending upon being a parishioner or the public.
Sister Frances Therese led us in a closing prayer.
Meeting adjourned at 8:41 pm.
Next Parish Council meeting is scheduled for October 20, 2008 in the School Library Meeting Room.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Jeep
